EIGALAND.COM: Tom Hiddleston gives fan service to Japanese fans
『Kong: Skull Island』 Tom Hiddleston visits Japan for the first time! Gives gentlemanly fan service to Japanese fans
The Japan premiere for the movie 『Kong: Skull Island』 was held on the 15th, at Tokyo Shinjuku’s Kabikicho Godzilla Road, with cast Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, and Samuel L. Jackson visit Japan. GACKT and Sasaki Nozomi of the Japanese dubbing cast made took part as well.
Following the international success of the 『Godzilla』 series reboot in 2014, Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. have once again come together to work on this spectacular blockbuster which will look at the true “King” of nature in a new light. Jordan Vogt-Roberts is the director for this movie, with Tom Hiddleston acting as Conrad, the leader of the expedition team, and Brie Larson, Academy Award Best Actress winner for the movie 『Room』, acting as the war photojournalist Weaver. The movie has already been confirmed to be part of a series, with an upcoming movie 『Godzilla: King of Monsters』, and a confrontation between King Kong and Godzilla announced for 2020.
This time, Tom Hiddleston, who is visiting Japan for the first time, Brie Larson, the Academy Award Best Actress winner for the movie 『Room』 whose last visit to Japan was a year ago, and Samuel L. Jackson, whose last visit to Japan was in 2012 for 『Avengers』, came to the Japan premiere. They were welcomed with loud cheers, and they spent about an hour giving fan service in the cold air.
During the event, King Kong makes an appearance, with noises that sounds like earth tremors, as if to look at Godzilla who was towering over the venue in the back. As the visiting cast looked out with surprised expressions, they applauded for the uniquely Japanese Godzilla.
Tom greeted 「Thank you everyone, for the warm welcome! Arigatou gozaimasu!」, and then shared his impression of his first visit to Japan, saying 「Everyone is so kind and friendly! I've had some sushi and sashimi, the food here is delicious! I'm also very excited to be standing below Godzilla!」.
Brie said with a smile, 「Tokyo is my favourite city in the world. I'm so grateful to be here!」. Full of mischief, Samuel greeted 「Ohayou〜! (good morning)」, and stirred up the audience, saying 「This is awesome being here! You're like the dopest crowd on the planet. This film is really exciting, with a beautiful girl, handsome guy, and me!」.
GACKT, who provided the dubs for Tom’s character Conrad, has watched the movie, and said 「This is a little different from the King Kong that everyone has in their mind, and surprising things happen in a fairly early part of the movie. The human drama too is exceptionally interesting. If I may say, it’s 20 times more interesting than 『Jurassic Park』. Do catch it in the theatre」.
Sasaki, who provided the dubs for Brie’s character Mason Weaver, said, 「Since this was my first time dubbing, it was really difficult」, and having seen the movie, she revealed 「It has a tension that gets your palms sweaty, and I hope that you’ll enjoy watching it until the end. I’m a big fan of this movie!」.
Also, GACKT asked Tom in English, 「Do you have any plans to go somewhere, or is there anything you want to see in Tokyo tonight?」. Tom then asked him for recommendations, and GACKT said 「What about going to Golden Gai」. To which Brie broke into a smile, saying 「I’ve heard of it! I wanna go!」. Tom, too, said 「It sounds fantastic!」, smiling.
Lastly, Tom closed off with a message, saying 「It's a huge honour to bring this film to Japan. Enjoy it!」, and the event ended.

At the same event, in the evening, King Kong occupied the orange coloured carpet as he appeared, which was a first for a foreign film. On screen, the gigantic King Kong will appear too and the “competition” between Godzilla and King Kong from the future movie 「Godzilla VS Kong」, which is scheduled for release in 2020, came to life.

When GACKT turned to Tom and asked, 「I heard you're gonna go back tomorrow, so do you have any plans to go somewhere, or is there anything you want to see in Tokyo tonight?」, Tom asked in return 「What do you recommend?」. To that GACKT replied with 「Golden Gai」, which is a restaurant district near the venue, and Brie unexpectedly quipped in 「I wanna go!」. During the Graduation Ceremony on March 18, the PTA gave 「an extraordinary present」 to the graduates.

2017/03/18 (Sat) 「GACKT」 sings passionately at the graduation ceremony
After the graduation ceremony on March 18, artiste 「GACKT」 arrives as an extraordinary present from the PTA to the graduates, and sang passionately.
The song was 「No ni Saku Hana no Youni」, with it's lyrics and melody both written by GACKT-san.
As he sang of nostalgic school scenes, he also spoke of the importance of living strong to realise their dreams, comparing it to a flower that blooms in the wild... touching the audience's hearts and conveying the depth of it to them.
Even so, I, being the school principal, bore witness to the rehearsal last night but I was shocked by GACKT-san's professionalism.
He had a hour-and-a-half long rehearsal for just a 5-minute long song. He made sure of each note and sound, moved to the parents' seats, the students' seats, the guests' seats to check the sound, recorded it himself, fixed it, then came for the performance.
