The production team from Hollywood’s 『GODZILLA』 brings a larger-than-usual Kong to the action-adventure spectacular 『Kong: Skull Island』. The movie was released in the US on the 10th, ahead of Japan, and broke out with a big start, raking in around 7 billion yen in the first 3 days, and it has already brought in over 16 billion yen in sales worldwide.
It will finally be released in Japan on March 25 but, ahead of this release, the Japan premiere was held, with Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, and Samuel L. Jackson coming to Japan for the event. An orange carpet, the Godzilla Road, was laid out in front of TOHO Cinemas Shinjuku, and GACKT and Sasaki Nozomi of the Japanese dubbing cast also appeared as guests.
The 3 visiting guests gave lots of fan service to the fans who were lined up along the 120m long carpet. Getting on stage with the dubbing cast, Tom, who was visiting Japan for the first time, said 「Everyone is so kind and friendly, and the food here is delicious. I've had some sushi and sashimi. And I'm also very excited to be standing below Godzilla.」, sharing his thoughts, and just like in the movie, the first thing Samuel said was 「Ohayoー! (good morning)」, warming up the atmosphere in the venue.
Turning to Hiddleston, who has to leave Japan soon, GACKT recommended, 「What about going to Golden Gai?」, to which Brie, too, responded 「I’ve heard of it!」. After hearing about what Golden Gai is like, Tom was interested as he said 「It sounds fantastic!」. Incidentally, with regards to his impression of Tom, GACKT said 「He’s a good man up close. You rarely meet a man who’s great up close」.

In 1973, an expedition team that was sent to the mysterious Skull Island encounters Kong and other gigantic monsters which live on the island, throwing them into a desperate fight for survival. Hiddleston, who has a wide range of movie activities from「Avengers」to「High-Rise」, acts as the team leader and mercenary Conrad, while Larson, who won an Oscar of Best Actress in「Room」, acts as the war photojournalist Weaver, while Jackson acts as the US army lieutenant colonel who escorts the expedition team, Packard. The movie was released in the US on March 10, and debuted at number 1, raking in 61 million dollars in the opening box office and start off as a huge hit.
In front of the venue, a 120.1-metre long orange carpet called the Godzilla Road was laid out, and the cast arrived on it one after another starting with Tom Hiddleston, who was visiting Japan for the first time, and the moment the fans got a glance of him, they leaned over the barricades and got into a frenzied state. The cast who were visiting Japan happily responded to the requests for pictures and autographs despite the cold weather, and even when they went over the scheduled time, they dedicatedly continued the fan service. At the end, Tom closed off with a message 「It's a huge honour to bring this film to Tokyo, and to Japan. Enjoy it」.
The movie is set on a mysterious island on the south pacific called Skull Island. The guardian of the island is King Kong, a never-before-seen creature that inhabits the island and appears before the expedition team. It has been confirmed that King King will go up against Godzilla in 2020. The expedition team, made up of a star-studdet cast that includes Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson, has to escape from the over 30-meters tall King Kong, that was created by the productions team of 『Pacific Rim』 and 『GODZILLA』.

Samuel, who last came to Japan to promote 『Avengers』 around 4 years and 7 months ago, said 「Ohayou gozaimasu! (good morning)」, blurting out a morning greeting at the night premiere. When it was pointed out to him by the interpreter, he said with an embarrassed smile 「It’s morning in L.A. right now. Konbanwa～～ (good evening)」.
