Okinawan-born artist GACKT visited the Okinawa Prefectural Office on the 25th and handed over a donation of 4.7 million yen for the reconstruction of Shuri Castle. He donated all the money from the sales of the items made specially to contribute to the restoration of Shuri Castle for his national tour, which started in January this year.
GACKT said, “I put the proceeds from the sales of the merchandise into rebuilding Shuri Castle to help with the efforts. This comes from my fans and I, who love Okinawa.” GACKT appeared in NHK’s drama “Tempest” in 2011. Speaking about his thoughts on Shuri Castle, he said: “I think it’s an important symbol not only for me, but also for the people of Okinawa. There are many people who want it to be rebuilt as soon as possible. For the filming of Tempest, I had the opportunity to film inside Shuri Castle, which is normally inaccessible, and that’s very memorable for me.”
