GACKT Official Blog update. Translation below:
As usual, I woke up in the middle of the night.
When I really thought about it, I realised that in the first place, I only sleep for 3 hours,
and that this happens because I’ve simply been falling asleep early,
instead of it being because of jet lag.
And in the first place.
There are no windows in my Japan home…
Maybe it’s because this is the first time in awhile that I’ve had windows like this,
and lived with the curtains left open
that I’m noticing whether or not it’s night or day more.
I guess humans are such creatures.
If you live with the curtains left open,
you’ll notice the scenery outside even if you don’t like it.
Of course, that includes the sunlight.
Is that what it is…
It’s definitely that.
Hmm, I wonder why I didn’t realise it.
Anyway,
the Empire State Building that can be seen from my window is surreal…
I’ll go over if I can finish my work before dawn breaks today… I thought, and got to work.
As expected, the time difference between America and Japan is too large,
and in the end it’s too much of a burden for all parties in both countries.
Come to think of it, my stock trader friend always woke up in the middle of the night,
looks like he’s having it tough everyday…
In conclusion,
I can’t live by ignoring the time difference.
Right now I’m working along the timing of my Japanese staff but
if I lived in America,
all of my staff will have to adapt to my timing.
Ughーーーー…
Just thinking about it is dreadful.
I think I’ll get an unreasonable number of complaints.
Just with that it’ll be impossible for me to stay in a country with a time difference after all…
It’s only possible if I retire from work or entrust all the work to someone else completely.
Till before noon, I was in contact with the Japan side, settling this and that,
and by the time I finished the work itself, it was before evening.
I wonder if it’s alright to go to the Empire State Building at this time…
Basically, for me,
I don’t have any interest in such touristy things.
Instead,
what I like to do most is to spend everyday normally without a need to do anything,
and thinking about “What if I lived here?”,
basically without any destination even if I walked on the streets or got into a car.
It’s just that
seeing the Empire State Building from my window everyday piqued my interest,
and I personally have memories of this building.
In the past… no, even now I guess.
I love Meg Ryan to death.
Mm, that might be misunderstood… I think.
I loved Meg Ryan’s smile to death.
The existence of someone who can smile so wonderfully
is an antipode compared to someone like me, who’s bad at smiling.
If I encountered someone who can smile so wonderfully,
I’ll probably fall immediately… That’s what I’ve thought all my life but
I’ve yet to meet someone with such a smile.
Considering that, you can also say that her smile is wonderfully precious.
In the movie 【Sleepless in Seattle】,
she encounters Tom Hanks on the observation deck of the Empire State Building.
When I watched the movie back then,
I didn’t think anything of the Empire State Building and such but
when I came here, I strangely started getting curious,
and wondered what’s the filming location like.
Is it that wonderful a location for 【encounters】?
Anyway, I decided to confirm it with my own eyes,
and quickly arranged my things before jumping into the car.
When I actually arrived outside the building,
『Is this really the place?』
it’s simple appearance and lack of a crowd made me wonder.
Anyway, I’ll go in and have a look.
Nope, I got it wrong.
When I entered, it was already filled with people.
I got a bad feeling about this.
I got the feeling that there’s probably quite a queue…
Mmーーーー, I don’t wanna queue… I thought, but
I still walked towards the ticketing area.
I’m starting to feel sick..
There’s already a line from the queue to buy tickets.
But having come all the way here, turning back will make me feel like I’ve lost.
What the hell am I doing… I thought, as I queued.
The number of people here is terrible.
I arrived at the reason for the human traffic jam.
There’s even a security check…
Oh well, that’s to be expected…
Thinking about that, the peacefulness of Tokyo Tower and the Sky Tree…
After getting through security, I finally arrived at the ticketing area.
I bought the ticket, and headed to the back, and felt even more sick.
What’s with this line…
My anthropophobia has completely started.
I really can’t deal with this vortex of people.
I feel sick.
Then, unable to ignore that I looked sick,
a group of girls spoke to me,
『Are you alright??』
Ughーーーー, so uncool.
Getting worried over like this is so uncool.
『I’m alright… I’m just sick from the crowd… Thanks…』
I said, I think I probably didn’t look fine at all.
They seemed worried when they looked my way.
Then,
from behind, an Australian man spoke to me.
What he said was so darned long
that I was able to forget the dizziness while speaking to him.
Thanks? to him, after about an hour of queuing, I finally arrived at the observation deck.
It’s the 80th floor.
Then,
I went up to the 86th floor where that scene took place.
“Here it is!!!” I thought, as I stepped out to have a look.
Everyone was looking at the scenery outside but I kept looking
on the inside, wondering “Where was it filmed…”.
Looks like it was filmed here…
Mmm… Deeply moving…
Then I went up to the 102nd floor.
The scenery from the window is probably quite beautiful if it was night…
There are things that I won’t know
unless I came here for a look after all… I thought, and as I was about to go down,
a black employee in front of the elevator called out.
『GACKT??? Oh my god!!!!』
I was asked what I was doing in such a place, and
『Uhーーーm, to meet Meg Ryan…』
I answered without thinking.
『Huh????』
they looked at me with a questioning expression.
That’s of course. That kind of answer is something that can only come from a pervert.
There’s a better way to say it right?
Anyway, I arrived downstairs safely
and was able to make it to the cafe.
Whew〜〜〜.
But I guess it was a good thing that I went.
There’s a difference between the movie and the real thing, and it refreshed my memory of that time.
If someone is coming to New York,
I’ll definitely recommend going there at night.
However,
you should be prepared for the terrible queue though…
