An thrilling fantasy in an imaginary school, where the dream world is the main theme where riddles are hidden, based on the original piece “Yume Chigai” written by Onda Riku.
Akumu-chan returns as a movie, due to the amazing success of the TV drama aired starting october 2011.
It’s the story of “Akumu-chan”, Yuiko Koto (Manatsu Kimura), a girl that has vision during her dreams and her teacher Ayami Mutoi (Keiko Kitagawa) is able to understand and solve the kid’s nightmares and while solving those dreams she also solves different cases. In the movie version the central theme is Yuiko's entering puberty and having her first crush; we will see again Ayami's fight against some problems with some her ex-students. GACKT still plays the double role of Shiki Takashi, an associate professor of cognitive neurology, he hired Ayami whom created the idea in he dreams that he could be her Prince Charming.
#the amazing strength of GACKT playing two roles where he is supposed not to be good in expressing himself.
THE DAY OF THE RELEASE OF THE MOVIE IS GETTING CLOSER. CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR TWO ROLES?
GACKT: Shiki Takashi whom I play is first of all a dreams scientist, but he really seems like a kid when he has to express himself. Apparently he could seem really strong but he's not completely mature. Because of this, he's basically not so much able to communicate with other people and people are the subject of his analysis. On the contrary, Yumeoji is the male figure that Ayami build up as an idea of him. He's a presence that surrounds her without never criticizing.
THERE HAVE BEEN SOME DIFFICULT MOMENT TO PLAY, PERFORMING TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ROLES ONE AFTER THE OTHER?
GACKT: Who knows maybe I wasn't acting! Especially Shiki's hidden part. In any case, there were a lot of dialogs and very fast too! Compared to my way of talking, he speaks really much faster than me; I had the impression that my tongue was in a knot. This was pretty difficult!
WHAT ARE THE SIMILARITIES?
GACKT: just like Shiki Takashi I am not good in talking about myself and maybe I really look like him when he's childish.
WHO COULD EVER IMAGINE THAT! SINCE YOUR VISION OF THE WORLD HAS BEEN CONSOLIDATED, I THOUGHT EXPRESSING YOURSELF WAS ONE OF YOUR STONG POINTS!
GACKT: This is a speech about how I express my vision of the world as an artist, but I'm not that good in my daily life. Furthermore, it unexpectedly seems like words suited to the occasion, it seems like I only want to be represented by good things.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN?
GACKT: aren't these reliable words? I think people shouldn't try to look pleasing in every way. But acting equally towards everyone, you completely exclude the people you are talking with. People call this "expressing themselves", but it's natural that there are different types of characters; depending on people, behaviors may change, so, basically, it's important also to act depending on the persone you are speaking with. For example, my friends are really caring and kind towards me, but towards my manager are very strict. But they aren't bad people, then why are they so strict? Because the manager is not so prepared in certain circles o he doesn't know some things. But towards me, face to face, he respects me. We all spend time with people in different ways, not everyone is the same. Especially for this, it's tremendously difficult to express themselves. Obviously this applies to me too. Inside the world I build up, I can express myself, but who knows... I'm not sure I'm able to express myself in my daily life too.
#an episode that happened with Keiko Kitagawa
FOR SURE, SOME PART OF SHIKI TAKASHI ARE ALSO YOURS. WERE YOU FRIENDS WITH THE REST OF THE CAST? HOW WAS THE ATMOSPHERE?
GACKT: It's a good atmosphere! Because everyone was really close, actors and staff. We used to laugh so much. The most important parts of the drama are also the ones where we laughed the most, but right after the atmosphere was shaken up by some sharp comment, so... be careful.
WHAT KIND OF COMMENT CAN SHAKE UP THE ATMOSPHERE?!CHE RAZZA DI COMMENTO STRAVOLGE LA SITUAZIONE?!
GACKT: The staff is really strict, they told me not to say anything... because Keiko says a line with a very sharp tone and she gets kudos!
IT'S A PLACE WHERE EVERYONE IS GETTING ALONG, AND YOU CAN SEE IT IN MORE THAN ONE EPISODE. IN ONE OF THE EPISODE OF THE DRAMA THERE'S A SCENE WHERE THE TEACHER AYAMI IS SUPPOSED TO FALLIN LOVE. IN REALITY, TEACHER AYAMI COULD BE YOUR KIND OF WOMAN?
GACKT: yes it's true, there's a similar scene.... Teacher Ayami is not perfect. She has a wound in her heart that won't allow her to express herself. To protect herself, she's very determined person. My kind of woman should be like my big sister. This kind of woman gives objectively a sense of compassion. Even if she's really kind and cute, a man could think it's difficult to treat. There are not so many people that can understand their true self, so they come across as annoying.
HAVE YOU BEEN CONSIDERED ANNOYING TOO?
GACKT: I'm a master, I have no relationship with any woman.
#GACKT tells us about " the secret of realizing your dreams"
IT'S IN YOUR STILE! THIS YEAR, FIRST WITH "AKUMU-CHAN" AND THEN WITH "MOON SAGA, CHAPTER 2" DO YOU HAVE ANY INTENTION TO CONTINUE BEING AN ACTOR? A LOT OF FANS WOULD WANT TO SEE YOU SING...
GACKT: Of course, they will hear me! I'm also being an actor, but my category should not be divided by the musician one. Acting on a stage was very helpful for me to make my expressive ability stronger. So if my commitments won't overlap, I will continue being an actor.
WHAT A WONDERFUL NEWS! SO... IN CONCLUSION, TELL YOUR FANS, THAT ARE BUSY REACHING THEIR GOALS, THE SECRET TO REALIZE THEIR DREAMS
GACKT: Shouldn't you find an agreement with yourself? Finding a dream and realizing one is not so easy, but not so difficult either. If you wait and that's it dreams are not going to realize themselves. For anything you should behave as a warrior, then you will receive an advice for sure! Because a persone with no hope, reflect their mental state. So for this reason, you need to be serious first and then, to realize your dream, you need to have a strong will. If you have a strong will, a spirit and a not giving up behavior, you will realize your dream for sure. It has to be a common gift given to people! Finding a dream! That's what I think.

Despite his prodigious output, Gackt labors over each and every project. The 40-year-old Okinawa native says he spent half a year preparing his 44th single, “P.S. I Love U.” “This song is meant to be like a letter from someone who died and left that letter for their loved one to read,” Gackt told Metropolis in an English interview at his office in Shibuya. He explains that although the song is written from a woman’s perspective, it expresses his own thoughts, experiences and philosophy.
“I did quite a bit of research,” he says of the soaring piano ballad. “I collected a number of touching stories, and watched love movies from different countries such as the American romantic comedy If Only, the Japanese drama Ima Ai Ni Yukimasu (Be With You), and the film Watashi No Atama No Naka No Keshigomu (A Movement to Remember). But even though I used other people’s materials for inspiration, I would say that 95 percent of this song is based on my own feelings and experiences.”
Indeed, the songwriter drew from tragedy in his own history. Just before he started his solo career, Malice Mizer lost its drummer Kami to a brain hemorrhage. Today, Gackt says he keeps Kami in his heart and the loss informs the background of the new song.
Although his calm demeanor today belies the fact, he has faced opposition over some of his career choices. “While working on the NHK historical drama Furin Kazan,” he recalls. “I played the role of Kenshin Uesugi, the Sengoku period daimyo. My vision for this character was different from what everybody expected. The real Kenshin Uesugi was always portrayed as a very tough and brutal-looking man.”
Instead, Gackt presented him clean-shaven, with beautiful long hair. “I received a lot of harsh criticism, but award-wining actor Ken Ogata came to me and expressed his approval. He gave me the assurance I needed to continue. After that he became like a father to me.”
The massive sunglasses make it difficult to read Gackt’s emotions, but his great admiration for his mentor is evident. Ogata died in 2008, one day after he and his protégé made plans to meet the following week. “He was a great person—a true actor—not only in his lifetime, but also at the time of his death,” Gackt says, listing him as another influence on the new song.
“My single is meant to be like a letter left to a loved one by someone who’s gone from this world,” he continues. “I imagined what the person who is reading such a letter would feel. But the purpose of my song is not to evoke sadness, but happiness. In my opinion, death is not important—what’s important is what kind of life we leave behind. People reading such letters should not focus on the event of death itself, but on all the good memories and positive emotions that they were able to share together.”
“Death is scary only to the unprepared,” he concludes. “Once you prepare yourself for the fact that it will happen at some point, and focus on the moments you are alive, the words ‘to die’ lose their power to intimidate.”
Gackt appears in the play Moon Saga Yoshitsune Hiden Dainisho, August 8-1.
