TRANSLATION: GACKT-Kenshin at the Kenshin Festival - A cry of triumph to the crowd by the roadside
The 90th Kenshin Festival (also the main sponsor of the event) kicked-off the 2014 programme, held at Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture, by welcoming back musician GACKT as Uesugi Kenshin. This is GACKT’s 6th appearance as Kenshin (and for 2 consecutive years) as he appeared wearing a black costume riding a white horse. Accompanied by a 500-strong entourage and leading with a cry of triumph, a tide of enthusiasm engulfed the audience standing by the sides of the road.
GACKT headed from Kasuga Elementary School, towards the intersection at Sanroku-sen’s Kasugayama. Like last year, GACKT was wearing the familiar black suikan (the everyday garment worn by nobles in ancient Japan), the same outfit he had worn when he was acting in the 2007 NHK Taiga-drama [Furinkazan].
As the white horse went back and forth, from the intersection at Sanroku-sen’s Kasugayama, reciting that [to convey the soul of righteousness, Uesugi Kenshin has surpassed time to visit this land of Joetsu], the 500-strong entourage raised the cry of triumph [EIEIOOOOO].
The roads were filled with many people, who raised cries of [my lord] and applauded and cheered in loud voices when GACKT appeared.
GACKT comment that [To me, Joetsu is like a “second hometown” and a special/important place. Through this event, I hope from my heart that the the people who are attracted to and love Joetsu like me will increase.]

TRANSLATION: Report Moon saga - Rankingbox.jp
In August 2014 at the Meiji-za in Tokyo, the MOON SAGA Yoshitsune Hiden chapter 2 stage play, sequel of the clamorous MOON SAGA Yoshitsune Hiden that had more than 50 thousand viewers, opened the curtains. This is the review of August 15th performance.
First of all, "MOON SAGA" is the general denomination for the amazing world created by GACKT since 2002 and in which the artist is putting all his soul. This MOON SAGA story started with the movie 「MOON CHILD」where GACKT and Hyde (L'Arc~en~ Ciel singer) play the main characters. In 2005, GACKT created 「DIABOLOS」a world called " VISUALIVE" (VISUAL & ALIVE & LIVE= VISUALIVE. A new original style performance created by GACKT where there's a fundamental theme and story and theatrical elements, stage, music and dance elements are moving around it creating an all original world) and this one is based on vampire leggends.
In 「MOON SAGA Yoshitsune hiden」the main character is Minamoto no Yoshitsune (an historical figure from late Heian period) and this story talks about friendship and destiny. GACKT, other than playing the main character, also cured the production, the music and the screenplay, basically the whole creation from beginning to end. Staying try to the historical facts, the story talks about the "Mononofu" dilemma (human being with incredible powers that should not belong to them) and asks the eternal questions to people: What is a human being?
Together with GACKT in the main role, the best Japanese actors are playing wonderfully on the stage.
Two years ago, in MOON SAGA Yoshitsune hiden chapter 1, GACKT used the LED technology to mesmerize the audience. GACKT's VISUALIVE never disappoints. And this time, there will be any new entry?
The answer is.... Yess!! Of cours!! The news is the biggest Projection Mapping in Japanese theatre history. Thanks to 6 mega sliding screens where images are projected, it's possible to create an incredible depth of field on the stage, GACKT was able to deliver to the audience the most delicate and smooth details: Yoshitsune's sorrow and rage, the wind's gentle caresses through the leaves and all the different shades of moonlight.
Obviously, also the performances of all the actors were absolutely great.
Compared to two years ago, GACKT has improved really a lot in the fighting action scenes. Hiro Yuumi was amazing with the dynamic movements also thanks to her height (179cm).
It's a fusion between music, images and theatre: a real work of luxury!!!
The performances are on until October between Fukuoka, Ōsaka, Hiroshima, Nagoya, Sendai and Saitama. Next year GACKT will deliver his last VISUALIVE continuing with the MOON SAGA theme! Do not miss it!

TRANSLATION: Moon Saga 2 Report E-Plus - Wholly Produced by GACKT
The long awaited sequel stage play, [Moon Saga -Secret of Yoshitsune- Chapter 2] has kicked off. The story begins from March in year 1184 2 months after the final scene in the first play. The Genpei War and troubles of the hero, Minamoto no Yoshitsune, acted by GACKT,was dramatised from a new perspective drawn with a color of entertainment and a fresh breath of aesthetics.
(With stage equipment that uses projection mapping to its full potential, a fresh stage play experience is created for the historical fantasy!)
It is set in the days after the Heian Era. The Mononoke, who were feared since ancient times, the Mononofu, who are humans who gained the Mononoke's powers, and the humans, who are being ruled by the Mononofu. In this scenario, the Heike and the Genji families, along with the other Mononofu around them, possess various powers like telepathy and seeing the future.
The opening looks back to the first chapter. A stylish video captures the events when Yoshitsune awoke the powers which resided within him and killed his cousin and childhood friend, Minamoto no Yoshinaka (later known as Kiso Yoshinaka).
This was a prominent showcase of video usage. Projection mapping was used to its fullest in the background, using a simple device in the front of the stage, a video tailored to the scene was projected to create depth. It was an enjoyable stage evolution which changed in sync with the actors' performances. The scene constantly changes as reality and illusion worked interchangeably to create the image of flipping a pop-up book. Not only was it easy to imagine the kinds of powers that the Mononofu possessed, it greatly enhanced the entertainment factor of the play.
Thoughts of Yoshinaka in the woods, the anguish which confronts Yoshitsune, a samurai named Nori who is as beautiful and delicate as a woman.
It is he who is known as the strongest Mononofu in the Heike, along with his brother, Taira no Tomomori, who looks for the path of peace between the Genji and Heike with Yoshitsune. However, his half-brother Minamoto no Yorimoto, and his wife Hojo Masako, look for ways to bring Yoshitsune down using Kajiwara Kagetoki to cause disorder... ...
The stage setup uses numerous steep slopes and creates an unparalleled highlight of intensive action. The amount of training that it took to pull off the scenes will definitely catch your attention. Furthermore, the gifts of GACKTs daily training can be enjoyed in the superhuman wire action fights.
In addition, all the characters' personalities are one of a kind, not to mention main character Yoshitsune, and more like one of the Yoshitsune's big four Musashibo Benkei, the lady Mononoke who possesses bewitching beauty Hiyori, Noritsune who sides the Heike, Chimori, Kikkoumaru and Ginroumaru the Mononoke protege of the Taira, and including Yoritomo, Masako, and Kagetoki. From actors like Kawasaki Mayo who feels a sense of dignity amongst such young company, and Yumi Hiro who feels that this is ine of the commemorable plays for the Takarazuka Revue, they've said that this is possibly the only stage play where a character's personality gets expressed so clearly.
The show went on without a break for 2 hours and 45 minutes. Despite the extremely sad story that developed, it was a truly impressive finale of absolute beauty that instils hope in one's heart. Without going into detail, the highlight of the story comes in the climax of a one-on-one battle scene, where it can only be expressed as an enormous performance of the Mononoke Battle. This is truly a play one can only fully experience in the theatre, so by all means, please do watch it.
