Okinawan musician and actor GACKT has donated about 4.7 million yen to Okinawa Prefecture to help rebuild Shuri Castle, the main structure of which was destroyed by fire.

GACKT visited the Okinawa Prefectural Office in the afternoon of the 25th to present the donation.

The donation came from the proceeds of goods GACKT sold on his live tour to help rebuild the Shuri Castle after the fire that broke out last year.

A lot of my fans have helped too. This is from my fans who love Okinawa and me,” said GACKT as he handed over the donation check of about 4.7 million yen.

In response to the donation, Uehara Kunisada, Director of the Civil Engineering and Construction Department of Okinawa Prefecture said, “Thank you very much for the donation. We will make use of it for the restoration and reconstruction of Shuri Castle.

Previously, he also filmed a NHK drama at Shuri Castle

GACKT recalled filming at Shuri Castle nine years ago when he appeared in NHK’s drama “Tempest”. He said, “I had the opportunity to go in and film in places that are normally inaccessible, so (Shuri Castle) holds a very special place in my heart. I know there are people who are very sad that a symbol of themselves, which is important not only to me but also to the people of Okinawa, has been lost in this way, but I hope that I can help them, even if only a little.”
