Singer GACKT (46) had an uninhibited talk during the recent press conference in Tokyo for his 20th solo debut commemorative tour which starts next January.
This year, the movie Tonde Saitama (Fly Me To The Saitama), which he was a lead actor of, stirred up a lot of talk. With a smile, he said, “Part of the director’s wishes was, ‘Acting stupid things with seriousness makes it funny’, and my 20th anniversary live will be something close to that. I thought of seriously performing ridiculous things with earnest.” On this commemorative stage themed “GACKT’s money-wasting has begun”, he says that he pursues humour. “When you’re young, you’d want to be cool, but as you grow older, there’s leeway to do things,” he said, proclaiming his “comedian personality”.
He refrains from appearing on the annual TV Asahi program “Celebrity Rating CHECK! (Geinoujin Kakuzuke CHECK!)” (1 January, after 5.00) at the start of the year. He has been hailed as a person with “an unparalleled eye for aesthetic” for his winning streak of 58, accumulated since 2009, but he made a bombshell announcement, “If you asked me for my honest opinion, I want to quit. It’s nothing but stressful.” He confided his efforts behind-the-scenes, saying, “I do my studies. I’ve received materials from the Bonsai Association too, so I did my research.”
It is said that this is his first interview with a sports paper, “If I did drugs, I think you’d all come after me… I definitely don’t though!!”
