ItalianoIf GACKT gets an offer from Hollywood? 「I want to act as King Kong!」 Movie 『Kong: Skull Island』 Roaring × Cheering Screening Event
On April 5, the Roaring x Cheering Screening Event for the movie 『Kong: Skull Island』 was held at Tokyo Marunouchi’s Piccadilly 3, where GACKT, who is part of the Japanese dubbing cast for this movie, made an appearance.
King Kong, who has a lot of fans around the world, appears as the biggest, most fearsome x most powerful x fiercest king in this major action-adventure epic movie set on Skull Island. GACKT lend his voice for the Japanese dub of team leader Conrad, acted by Tom Hiddleston.
GACKT, who appeared from the back of the venue to loud cheers, appeared to be in a good mood saying 「Everyone seems energetic today～」.
Having also attended the Japan premiere on March 15, he also deepened relationships with Tom and the others who visited Japan. 「We spoke backstage and in the hotel」 he said, 「It seemed that filming in the jungle was really tough, the humidity and the heat makes you feel dispirited, he said」GACKT revealed, and also added 「Anyway (during the Japan premiere) it was cold. Golden Gai? Because it was so cold, once (the event) ended, they rushed into their cars and left」he said with a wry smile.
When asked what he would do if GACKT himself got an offer to act in a Hollywood movie, he replied without hesitation, 「If the timing’s right」. When he watched this movie, he said 「I thought that the person who appeared in the beginning was an actor who looked like MIYAVI. I kept thinking, so there are people in the world who do look like you, and that they really look alike… And when his name appeared in the ending credits, I was like “What! It’s really MIYAVI!” (laughs)」, talking about his surprise at seeing MIYAVI act as the Japanese military pilot Gunpai Igari. When asked what role he would like if he was asked to act, GACKT replied, 「For me I would like to act as King Kong (laughs)」, making the audience laugh.
Also, with regards to scenes he would particularly like people to focus on, he said 「There’s a Vietnam scene that appears in the movie though, my friends who live in America appear in it too. Just as I thought that they went all the way to Vietnam to film on site, they told me it was all done in a studio, which surprised me. The scale was of one that I wouldn’t have expected to be filmed in a studio! 」, appearing to be overwhelmed by the scale of Hollywood movies.
This movie is filled with a sense of urgency but, with regards to GACKT’s own most nerve-wracking moment in his life, he revealed 「In the past, when I was in a bar at Hokkaido’s Shizunai where I was visiting, I was surrounded by 500 villagers in the middle of the night, and I got mobbed」. He added 「It was the real-life Walking Dead…」 and laughed.
On that day, it is an event where the Roaring Screening and Cheering Screening is being held at the same time. He said to the audience 「Enjoy the great sound and powerful visuals!」, and said, full of confidence 「I don’t mean to brag but, I think my voice is pretty good (laughs)」. He added 「You might feel a little weird at the start but after around 20 minutes, that feeling will disappear and around the ending, it’ll sound like it’s Tom’s voice」. This time,the subtitled version will be screened but he appealed with power 「Do watch the dubbed version too!」.
