GACKT Official Blog update. Translation below:
Honestly, I didn’t really get to sleep and the shooting schedule was pretty tough but, it’s been an enjoyable MV shoot.
I arrived in Japan in the morning, and headed straight to the clinic for a dental checkup, followed by going for hair removal, before moving on to the studio.
In the end, without sleeping a wink, I arrived at the studio in Kanagawa.
Immediately, I did some light training.
An hour later, filming started.
My scene started at night. We’re filming it after all the other inserts have been filmed. According to the schedule it’s supposed to start from 10 p.m..
Though honestly I didn’t expect it to start at 10 p.m.. I’ve known Director Noda for a long time now.
Since awhile back, I’ve been working with him in JESUS, REDEMPTION, GHOST, and many other works as well.
However, work has never progressed on time with him.
Ahahahaha.
Anyway I’m not complaining.
In other words, I’m just recognising that he is an artist through and through.
Of course, I would think that there are clients who don’t think that it’s good that he’s not on time.
In my opinion, it’s not a problem as long as it produces results. Compared to taking time to create a piece of work, there is a much higher risk of the end product being halfway done if you care too much about time.
Just as my shoot was about to start, I checked the child actor’s scenes. It was a solid performance, and that’s quite something. He’s exceptionally good at switching between on and off.
The actress has arrived and began preparing. The look and feel of her appearance along with her acting and the power of her expression overwhelmed the studio.
With all the extras covered in blood as well, we took a variety of cuts over and over again.
In the end, by the time we were done filming the scenes that I’m not included in, it was midnight, 1 a.m..
From then, they started changing the set and actual time that we really started filming was around 2 a.m..
First, we had to do the test a number of times, then confirm what are the cuts we need. To a certain extent, we had to set up things like how much we should swing to best express this.
Anyway, it’s cold.
In the middle of the night, the studio is bitterly cold. It’s far too cold with me wearing only one knit top. My body is cold to the core.
Halfway through, my body temperature dropped too much, and drowsiness attacked. When I’m in lost in the snowy mountains I’ll suddenly feel sleepy
But, oddly enough, it’s weird because that makes me feel comfortable.
But of course, I can’t sleep and from there we took a number of takes. While accumulating the cuts that we need, and checking with the director along the way, we finally arrived at the final scene.
By the time filming ended here, it was 5 in the morning. We somehow managed to finish it.
Everyone was tired out but the feeling of relief that we were able to smoothly complete the shoot for it kept the smiles on us.
We closed it off with a celebration of Baru and the make-up artist KOTA’s birthdays which fall on this day.
Thank you for all your hard work, everyone.
Well then, let’s go home and sleep. Sleep like a log.
My legs are unsteady. To all the staff and cast involved, thank you for your hard work.
Really looking forward to the completion of the eccentric work.
